AI-driven parcel inspection keeps logistics center running smoothly

A legendary sportswear giant developed an AI-driven parcel inspection model on the Robovision AI Platform. The system runs in the logistics center and sorts defective packages.

Increased Efficiency
20% reduction of conveyor belt stoppages
Easy to operate and scale
User-friendly and retrainable AI model
Avoid manual interventions
Eliminate the labor shortage challenge

Conveyor belt trouble

At the customer's logistics center, boxes with loose or incorrectly placed labels or tape caused frequent disruptions. Packaging defects could jam robots further down the line, forcing them to stop and slow down the entire logistics operation. Misplaced labels often resulted in "no-reads" (barcodes scanned without success) which created problems during the palletizing or depalletizing process.

Traditional sensors struggled with the variety of packaging defects. Often loose labels would be misinterpreted as obstacles, the conveyor belt would stop, and handling processes would be interrupted until human intervention could resolve it.

Improve handling uptime with Computer Vision AI

Our integration partner implemented a solution using three standard 2D-RGB cameras to provide a full view of the parcels on the conveyor belt. By developing an AI classification model on the Robovision AI Platform boxes with defects are identified and sorted apart.

Through early detection of loose labels or tape atop cardboard packaging, the system's uptime is expected to improve by 20%, for a significant reduction in late deliveries (and customer complaints). Following successful implementation at their central warehouse, the customer plans to roll out the AI inspection system across their locations.

Smoother warehouse operations

In today's logistics landscape, efficiency is key, especially with e-commerce growth driving demands for faster delivery. Unforeseen automated systems stoppages are the biggest operational challenge for large distribution centers.

When operations depend on scarce human operators, handling costs can escalate dramatically. Manual processes can also pose safety risks for workers and introduce inefficiencies and errors, particularly in quality visual inspection.

Why Robovision AI?

Streamlined Technology

Replace a complex technology mix of multiple sensors, vision systems, and LIDAR with a single, integrated AI solution. Lower maintenance and operational costs by minimizing the number of technologies used.

Reliability

AI models deliver consistent performance, reducing errors in logistics operations. Unlike traditional programming logic, which can be prone to failures, AI systems are designed to adapt and learn, ensuring greater reliability.

Scalability

Your AI models can easily scale across multiple locations, ensuring consistent performance in various environments.Train and retrain them without complex and time-consuming programming.

User friendly

No need for software developers or AI specialists to use Robovision’s AI platform and build your own solutions. The platform provides a comprehensive toolset and intuitive workflows to create and manage AI models.
